Gage Weida and Daniel Castillo, Accident Chatsworth – Cause of Death: Bailee Rios Arrested After Deadly Metro Bus Crash

Gage Weida, 31, and Daniel Castillo, 46, have been identified as the two people killed in a deadly Metro bus collision in Chatsworth, Los Angeles, while authorities have arrested 36-year-old Bailee Lynn Rios in connection with the crash.

The fatal collision occurred shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday near Nordhoff Street and De Soto Avenue, triggering a major emergency response and leaving several other people injured.

Two Victims Identified

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the people who died as Gage Weida, 31, and Daniel Castillo, 46.

Six additional people were injured in the collision and transported to area hospitals for treatment. According to police, one passenger suffered severe injuries, while five others sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The crash involved a gray 2004 Ford Expedition and a Metro bus. Authorities said the impact sent both vehicles toward the curb.

Driver Arrested in Connection With Crash

The Los Angeles Police Department identified Bailee Lynn Rios, 36, of Simi Valley, as the driver of the SUV.

Police said Rios was arrested Wednesday morning on suspicion of murder and booked with bail set at $4 million. The allegations remain part of an ongoing criminal case and have not been adjudicated.

Authorities also said the SUV was traveling in the wrong direction before the collision and that the driver allegedly ran a red light. Investigators are examining the circumstances of the crash, including allegations involving reckless driving and possible driving under the influence.

Any charges or allegations against Rios remain subject to the legal process and presumption of innocence unless established in court.

A Second Tragedy in Chatsworth

The deadly bus crash was followed by another fatal incident in Chatsworth approximately two hours later.

An NBC4 news helicopter covering the bus collision crashed nearby, according to the report. Reporter Eliana Moreno, pilot George Marciniw, and a person on the ground were killed.

The two incidents occurred within a short period and brought an extensive emergency response to the Chatsworth area, leaving families, colleagues, first responders, and members of the wider Los Angeles community facing multiple losses.

The investigation into the Metro bus collision remains active as authorities work to establish the circumstances that led to the crash and determine the events immediately preceding the deadly impact.
