Jacob Graner Obituary, Jasper, GA Death: Former UTSA Football Player Dies at 28

Jacob Graner, a former University of Texas at San Antonio football player and offensive lineman for the Roadrunners, has died at the age of 28. Graner died Saturday at his home in Jasper, Georgia. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Graner played for UTSA from 2016 through 2019 after attending Dripping Springs High School. During his time with the Roadrunners, he appeared in 13 games and made three starts. As a junior in 2018, he started at right guard in victories over Texas State and UTEP and entered 11 games that season. He also appeared in two games during his senior year in 2019.

Beyond football, Graner was remembered by former teammates as a joyful and supportive person who made a lasting impression on those around him. Former UTSA offensive tackle Josh Dunlop recalled sharing film study sessions and bus rides with Graner, remembering his contagious laugh and the friendship they developed.

Former Roadrunners offensive lineman Dominic Pastucci also paid tribute to Graner, recalling the time they spent as roommates in San Antonio and while traveling for away games. Pastucci described him as a role model who gave his best effort on and off the field.

UTSA head coach Jeff Traylor also expressed condolences after learning of Graner’s death, saying that players and coaches who knew him spoke highly of his character both on and off the field.

Graner is survived by his wife, Natalie, and their two sons, Elijah and Mason, as well as his parents and two siblings.

Family and friends are scheduled to gather Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. ET at Roper Funeral Home in Jasper, followed by services at 6:30 p.m. A Catholic Mass is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Mountains.

In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations toward a college fund for Graner’s children.

The UTSA football community and Graner’s loved ones are mourning the loss of a young husband, father, teammate, and friend whose life touched many people both on and off the field.
