Dayce Newman Accident, Camrose County, ALB Obituary– Death: Bashaw Firefighters Mourn Firefighter and Son

The Bashaw, Alberta, community is mourning the tragic death of firefighter Dayce Newman and his 13-year-old son following a fatal vehicle collision near Armena on September 15, 2026.

The Bashaw Volunteer Firefighters department shared the heartbreaking news on September 16, extending its thoughts and prayers to the Newman family. The department remembered Dayce as one of its own and said he would be deeply missed by his fellow teammates. Heartfelt condolences were also offered to everyone who knew him and his family.

According to Alberta RCMP media relations, Camrose and Wetaskiwin RCMP detachments and Wetaskiwin EMS responded at approximately 4:37 p.m. on September 15 to a fatal collision at Highway 21 and Township Road 481, about 20 kilometres northwest of Camrose. The crash involved a motorcycle and a pickup truck hauling a utility trailer.

The 35-year-old male motorcycle driver and his 13-year-old male passenger, both residents of Camrose County, were pronounced deceased at the scene. The report identifies Dayce Newman as the firefighter who died in the collision, while his son was the 13-year-old passenger.

The 78-year-old driver of the pickup truck and his 76-year-old female passenger, both from Camrose, were not reported to have suffered injuries.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Highway 21 was closed for several hours before reopening at approximately 9:41 p.m., according to 511 Alberta.

The Town of Bashaw also expressed condolences to the Newman family, Dayce’s fellow firefighters, friends, and everyone affected by the loss. Mayor Cindy Orom recognized his service and dedication to the community, while Coun. Kyle McIntosh said he was ready to support fire department members through the difficult period.

Beyond his firefighting service, Dayce was a member of the Edmonton chapter of the Freedom Warriors Motorcycle Alliance and the Camrose and District Soccer Association.

His passing has left family, fellow firefighters, friends, and community members grieving the loss of a man remembered for his service and commitment to those around him.
